Archaeological Roads

No-one walks the old roads now. No, not one ;
they are all gone long ago
deep underground
but now they are com­ing to the sur­face again
these lat­tice roads
run­ning north-south, east-west,
from a pre-Colom­bian age,
shed­ding light on old set­tle­ments, trade connections,
the grid sys­tem of our sis­ter cities -
the street plans of the past.
