Mordechai Geld­man was born in Munich to Pol­ish par­ents who had sur­vived the Holo­caust. His fam­i­ly immi­grat­ed to Israel in 1949 and set­tled in Tel Aviv, where he has lived ever since. Geld­man has a BA in World Lit­er­a­ture, and an MA in Clin­i­cal Psy­chol­o­gy and works as a psy­chother­a­pist using psy­cho­an­a­lyt­i­cal methods.

Geld­man has begun pub­lish­ing poet­ry in 1966. His poet­ry is philo­soph­i­cal, psy­cho­log­i­cal, and exis­ten­tial. It com­bines lit­er­ary Hebrew and every­day lan­guage, even some slang. He has pub­lished 12 poet­ry books and 6 non-fic­tion books .A two vol­ume col­lec­tion from his books was pub­lished in 2011. His poems were trans­lat­ed into many lan­guages: Chi­nese and Japan­ese included.

As a visu­al artist Geld­man is engaged in paint­ing, ceram­ics and pho­tog­ra­phy. Geld­man was an art crit­ic for the Israeli dai­ly Haaretz, and curat­ed exhi­bi­tions for many Israeli artists.

Awards:  the Prime Min­is­ter Prize; the Bren­ner Prize for lit­er­a­ture; the Amichai Prize; the Bia­lik Prize for Literature.

ומאז הוא מתגורר בתל אביב. לגלדמן ב“א בפסיכולוגיה וספרות עולם ומ“א בפסיכולוגיה קלינית. הוא פסיכותרפיסט בגישות פסיכואנליטיות.

גלדמן התחיל לפרסם שירה ב- 1966. שירתו היא פילוסופית, פסיכולוגית ואקזיסטנציאלית. היא מצרפת עברית ספרותית ושפה יומיומית, אפילו קצת סלנג. הוא פרסם 12 ספרי שירה ו‑6 ספרי עיון. אסופה מקיפה משירתו בשני כרכים התפרסמה ב‑2011. שיריו תורגמו לשפות רבות כולל סינית ויפנית.

כאמן פלאסטי גלדמן עסק בציור, קרמיקה וצילום. הוא שימש כמבקר האמנות של העיתון “הארץ” ואצר תערוכות לאמנים ישראלים רבים.
